American
Style Social Dance Program
The
Allegro Ballroom offers a variety of social dance programs from beginner
levels through advanced. We use a grading system of Bronze, Silver and
Gold. For best results, students should start at the beginning and work
their way through each level. The following is a list of the social dance
classes and practice sessions in their logical progression.
Check
our monthly schedule in the Schedule &
Events section for exact dates.
BRONZE
LEVEL
American Style
Rotation
Introductory
Designed especially for newcomers, this class offers an introduction to
three different dances each week with
emphasis on basic patterns, timing, leading and following. Use the "interrelated
system of teaching," dances with similar patterns are taught to help
reinforce the steps and enable faster learning. Start on any week of the
month.
American Style
Rotation
Beginning/Intermediate
In this class, we start to develop techniques such as proper footwork,
body positions, dance frame, Latin motion and rise and fall - the building
blocks to becoming a good social dancer and fun dance partner. One
of the dances from the Introductory class will be taught each week.

Beginners Practice
Following the beginner classes, we offer a FREE guided
practice in the Junior ballroom to help you reinforce the new skills you
have just learned, while they are still fresh in your mind. After the
practice, feel free to stay for dancing in the main ballroom until midnight.
American
Style
Beginning/Intermediate Bronze
Our weeknight series classes give you a more indepth focus on one
of 8 dances for an entire month. Most students enjoy working on one
specific dance for a whole month, which helps to integrate all the steps,
lead/following, and other techniques into your personal dance style. Start
on the first week of the month; you may start later with the instructor's
permission.
American Style
Intermediate/Advanced
Bronze
As we move into the more advanced figures, we also have the opportunity
to add the extra special accents such as: body shaping, arm styling, and
many of the subtleties that will make your dancing more fun to do and
attractive to watch. This is also a one-month series class with different
dances each month. Start on the first week of the month.
SILVER
LEVEL
American Style
Silver
Beginning/Intermediate Silver
The Silver level is open to students who have completed the Bronze level
of dancing or experienced ballroom dancers. It is not recommended for
students with little dance experience, as it is assumed that students
are familiar with steps, concepts and techniques taught at the Bronze
level. Students learn to transition from the closed footwork to "continuity
style" dancing in Waltz and Foxtrot. The basics of the beautiful
Bolero are introduced, and knowledge of the Viennese Waltz, Tango, Samba,
Cha Cha and Swing are expanded upon. This is a one-month series with different
dances taught each month.
American Style
Silver
Intermediate/Advanced Silver
As students progress into the more advanced levels of Silver, we learn
the kinds of patterns that "Fred and Ginger" were known for:
open positions, dips and oversways that will amaze your partners and impress
your friends.
This is a monthly series with different dances
taught each month.
GOLD LEVEL
Most students at the
Gold Level work with a private instructor. Contact
us to find out about instructors teaching the American Style levels
of Bronze through Gold.
