Basic Floorcraft Tips
Are you a beginning
dancer who keeps getting bumped while dancing around the floor? Have you
been dancing for a while, but still have problems avoiding other couples
on the floor?
Read these quick tips
below from a dancer who has obviously been in the trenches. Many thanks
to the anonymous author who dropped the note into our suggestion box!
- Dancers who do not travel around the floor very much should dance
toward the center of the floor. This includes dancers who may need
to go slowly while practicing new steps. The outside of the floor
is available for dancers who do move quickly.
- Whether doing American or International Style, more stationary steps
should be danced at the corners of the floor or towards the center.
This includes swivels and the basic box step.
- While dancing, leaders should not look directly at the couple you
want to avoid, because you will hit them (believe us, you will!).
Instead, concentrate on looking at the spaces and you will dance there.
- Also, leaders should look where you are going. If you are looking
at your partner (no matter how beautiful she is), you cannot see where
you are going.
